Early Intrigue

Posted on 04 October 2009 by JJones

By Jason Jones

As we approach the first quarter mark of the NFL’s regular season, teams longterm success or failure should begin to come into focus.  Naturally, if you have no particular rooting interest, you might be inclined to look at the BAL/NE game or the NYJ/NO game.  I would not disagree with that sentiment.  However, the title reads “intrigue”.  Look, let’s call it like it is…Baltimore very well may be the best team in the NFL through the early going.  In addition, the Patriots just look lost.  They clearly are trying to come to terms with the loss of veteran defenders (specifically at the linebacker position).  They also really need to get the old Tom Brady back.  Or maybe, they need to get their WRs to get their proverbial heads out of their proverbial posteriors and just start catching the ball.  Baltimore should be up comfortably in the last few minutes of that game.

Why the “Rooney Rule” is bad for the NFL.

Posted on 02 January 2009 by Daymon

As I think about the Rooney Rule and what it does, I can’t help but think it’s the very reason that we as a country are still not solidified as one.  It uses race as a tool and uses the color of ones skin as a determining factor.

Let me give you a quick history lesson here.  The Rooney Rule was enacted by the NFL in 2003, and essentially, what it does is require NFL teams with a Head Coaching vacancy to interview a minority candidate, basically requiring teams to operate within the affirmative action hiring guidelines set forth years ago.  The rule itself was drafted by and named after Dan Rooney, the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Chairman of the NFL’s Diversity Committee.  Since the inception of the rule, the NFL’s head coaching numbers have swayed.  Currently, 22% of the coaches in the NFL are of minority decent, up from 6% prior to the rule change.  Simply put, more Black and minority coaches are being given Head Coaching jobs, and I’m all for that.  I’m in support of equality, and seeing beyond the color of one man’s skin.

That being said, I think the rule is a pointless measure enacted by the NFL.

Erin Andrews or Suzy Kolber…..Who’s Hotter???

Posted on 18 December 2008 by Daymon

By Sports Uncut Contributors

Well, who’s the hotter of the two?  This is a question that has been asked many a time in bars from Las Vegas to Earl’s Lobster Shack n’ Beer (real place) in Maryland.  I will not be weighing in on this one, however, we have received many emails from some of you that have asked this very question.  So, that being said, we thought why not have a poll to see who’s the hotter of the two, according to the average guy/girl who reads the Sports Uncut site?

Swell Idea eh?  Here’s how it works, for those of you who would like to chime in, simply write your responses below in the comment section.  Write either Kolber or Andrews,  Daymon or someone from Sports Uncut will tally the results, and 30 days from today (12/18) which is 1/18, we’ll track the results and post them.  So, you have until 1/18/09 to decide whom you think is the real “Sultaness of the Sideline” of these two.

In the meantime, below are a couple of videos and/or pictures for you to use as your basis of opinion…enjoy!

The BCS – Douche Bag of the Week for 12/8/08

Posted on 08 December 2008 by Daymon

This award goes to the person or persons (or in this case computers) in the world of Professional or Collegiate sports that make the biggest asses of themselves or whom they represent, by making mistakes, lying, cheating, stealing and just doing douchey things or being douchey in general.

So, here we are.  Almost one year removed from my beloved Buckeyes getting smashed, like a vat of grapes at a winery, in a National Championship game that the Buckeyes nor the Tigers of LSU had any business being in.  And, somehow, we find ourselves embroiled in the same tired battle that we seem to find ourselves in every year at this time.  The battle about who’s right, who’s wrong and who deserves to be playing for the National Title.  And, since the BCS is the cause for all of the controversy, they win the Douche Bag of the Week award this week.

No Way, No How, No Chance…..Nope.

Posted on 19 November 2008 by Daymon

I don’t know how many beers someone would have to drink to let a friend do this, but I can tell you for me (whatever the number) that it’s not nearly enough!  One flaw in that guys swing, and his buddies chicklets are going to be spread throughout the yard and on the deck.  I like to think I’m pretty courageous, and I typically don’t back down from anything….but this?  This is pressing the limits of sanity….

I love how excited the guy who swung the club gets, and it appears the guy laying down is feeling pretty good about it too.  I wonder if “club swiner guy” is cheering because he did it successfully or because he did it without blasting his buddy in the melon?
