Alex Boone – Beer drinkin’ Cop fightin’ Buckeye!

By Daymon Johnson

So, imagine this…..You’re in your Junior year at one of the most prestegious University’s in the country that just happens to have a dominating and successful football program that’s put more players in the NFL than any other college since 2000.  The year wraps with a disappointing bowl loss, and everyone is telling you that you’re going to be a mid-1st rounder in the draft and that you should declare yourself eligible, thus earning your “payday”.  You however, opt against declaring (knowing in the back of your mind that the money will be there in a year) and decide that you’re going to go back for your senior year, pleasing your coaches, your family, the fans and most importantly, yourself.  You know you’ve done the right thing!

Well, let’s say that Senior year, turned out to be a….well…..mediocre season, and as the season progressed, you heard over and over how you should have went pro, and eventually, after hearing it about 1000 times, you start to believe it.  Remember, just one year ago, you were considered a top 3 talent at your position and now, people consider you to be a 6-7th rounder if you’re even worthy of being drafted.  Some have you ranked as an Undrafted Free Agent….which in the football world, usually means your career is effectively over.  Sure, there have been some undrafted guys who have done some special things in the NFL, guys like James Harrison, Jake Delhomme, Priest Holmes, Willy Parker, Antonio Pierce, Tony Romo, John Randle and maybe best of all Antonio Gates.  However, those guys are few and far between, and you know this, and now’s when the panic sets in……

A ringing endorsement for the BCS!

Posted on 26 January 2009 by Daymon

A few weeks ago after the Florida Gators were crowned the “National Champions”, Saturday Night Live continued its trend of being the best 90-minute show that you can watch in 20 minutes on your DVR or TIVO or VHS Video Casette Recorder if your not a big technology guy/girl, thanks in part to Will Forte’s song making fun of the BCS.

Even though pretty much every Will Forte song on Weekend Update sounds exactly the same, and even though this devolves into easy George Bush jokes, I still found this enjoyable enough to post. Because, as you all know, I’m not what you would call a fan of the BCS…not even in the slightest. What a ringing endorsement for that pile of crap system they have! Ain’t no compliment like an underhanded compliment!

Thanks to the guys over at With Leather!

Once again, proof positive that the BCS is about as pointless and inefficient a “system” as there is…..and for the record, I believe that Utah is the ONLY team deserving of the National Championship crown.

“S my D, S my D, S my Deeeeeeeeee…..because I love the BCS”

The BCS – Douche Bag of the Week for 12/8/08

Posted on 08 December 2008 by Daymon

This award goes to the person or persons (or in this case computers) in the world of Professional or Collegiate sports that make the biggest asses of themselves or whom they represent, by making mistakes, lying, cheating, stealing and just doing douchey things or being douchey in general.

So, here we are.  Almost one year removed from my beloved Buckeyes getting smashed, like a vat of grapes at a winery, in a National Championship game that the Buckeyes nor the Tigers of LSU had any business being in.  And, somehow, we find ourselves embroiled in the same tired battle that we seem to find ourselves in every year at this time.  The battle about who’s right, who’s wrong and who deserves to be playing for the National Title.  And, since the BCS is the cause for all of the controversy, they win the Douche Bag of the Week award this week.

The Kicker Carousel goes round and round….round and round….round and round

Posted on 23 October 2008 by Daymon

How many times have you said this: “The life of a kicker, how hard could it be?  You play one play every 5-10minutes or so and you still get paid big money…Man, for money like that I’d do it”!  I confess, I’m guilty of minimalizing the actual responsibilities a kicker has, and assuming that like walking a dog, it’s an easy task.

Two Words……..Wilbur Hackett

Posted on 21 October 2008 by Daymon

Who is Wilbur Hackett?

A Pharmacist from Tennessee? A farmer from the Mid-West? The Lead Mechanic and owner at Wilbur’s Garage in Acworth, Georgia (real place by the way)?  The answer to all of those is simply, NO.

Wilbur Hackett is, aside from being a former starting linebacker for the University of Kentucky Wildcats in 1968 – 1970 and the first African-American team captain in SEC history, a little known football official in the SEC.  And suddenly, Mr. Hackett finds himself in an awkward position.
